Auto Awarding of Certificates

Students enrolled in an AS, AA, AAS, or APE program who complete certificates without applying for graduation will be automatically awarded these certificates at the end of the semester in which they complete their requirements. Once awarded, the certificate will appear on your transcript and is considered part of your permanent record. Auto awarded certificates fall into two categories: Standalone certificates and Embedded certificates. There is no fee required for a certificate that has been auto awarded.

Automatically awarded certificates typically should not affect Veteran or Financial Aid eligibility. If you have questions regarding your eligibility, please contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships or Veteran Services Office directly.

Embedded Certificates

Several SLCC degrees require that students complete a certain number of related certificates. These certificates are sometimes called "embedded" or "stackable" certificates. If you are planning to graduate in a program with embedded certificates, you do not need to apply for each certificate separately. Simply apply for the associate’s degree and we will award you all certificates that you have completed at the time of graduation.

If you would like to apply for an embedded certificate before you have completed the program to which it belongs, you may submit the Application for Certificate of Completion in General Education or Embedded Certificate (PDF) or simply wait for the auto award certificate to be posted to your record. No fee is required to submit this application.

Certificate of Completion in General Education

The Certificate of Completion in General Education is official proof that a student has completed the general education requirements of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree. Once awarded, it will appear on your transcript and is considered part of your permanent record. Please note that students with a previously awarded AA or AS degree are not eligible for the Certificate of Completion in General Education.

If you would like to apply for an embedded certificate before you have completed the program to which it belongs, you may submit the Application for Certificate of Completion in General Education or Embedded Certificate (PDF). No fee is required to submit this application.
