SLCC CE Transition Scholarship
en EspañolDid you know that Salt Lake Community College offers qualifying SLCC concurrent enrollment students a $1000-1500 scholarship for the first two semesters at SLCC after high school graduation? Here is how you qualify:
Step 1 – Complete a Minimum of 6 SLCC Concurrent Enrollment Credits
Six credits is approximately 2 concurrent enrollment classes, depending on the class. The classes must be SLCC concurrent enrollment classes and not concurrent enrollment classes from other Utah colleges or universities.
Step 2 - Do Well in Those Classes
You need to earn a 2.0 GPA or better after taking two or more SLCC CE classes. If your GPA is below that, and it's not the last semester of your 12th grade year, you can always take another SLCC concurrent class, perform well in that class, and improve your GPA.
Step 3 - Complete the Admission Update Form
To be eligible for the scholarship you need to change your status from a concurrent enrollment student to a traditional college student. You can find instructions on how to do that at the top of the SLCC forms page. Make sure when you update your admissions application you select the fall term after high school graduation and this will not impact your CE status or CE scholarship awarding.
Step 4 - Apply for Federal Financial Aid
Follow the steps on the Financial Aid website to apply for federal financial aid via the FAFSA
Step 5 - Register for Classes
Students who register for 6-8 credits their first semester after high school graduation will automatically receive a $1,000 scholarship for their first two semesters at SLCC, students who register for 9-11 credits will receive $1,250, and students who register for 12 or more credits will receive $1500. So for example, if a student registered for 6 credits their first semester as an incoming freshman they would receive $1000 that semester. Then if they registered for 14 credits the next semester they would receive $1500 that semester. CE Transition Scholarship recipients will need to continue taking at least 6 credits each semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA for the two consecutive semesters the scholarship has been awarded in order to continue receiving the scholarship each semester.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to apply somewhere to get the scholarship?
Answer: No. Concurrent enrollment students who qualify and who have completed the admissions update form will automatically receive the scholarship once they have registered for classes at SLCC after high school graduation.
When will I receive the scholarship?
Answer:The scholarship will automatically be deducted from your tuition bill.
Will the scholarship cover my first summer semester right out of high school?
Answer: Yes. However, the scholarship cannot be awarded until high school graduation is complete. So if a student takes a summer class that starts in May and is still in high school, the scholarship money will not be received until after the student has officially graduated.
Will I still qualify if I am planning on serving a mission, entering peace corp, enlisting in the military, or other deferment after high school graduation?
Answer: SLCC does not defer scholarships. However, if you don't take any classes on campus before leaving on your mission, you can apply as an incoming freshmen when you return & still be considered for the scholarship as if you started SLCC straight out of high school.
If I took my first 3 credits during fall semester of my senior year and am currently enrolled in 3 credits, can I still apply even thought I haven't completed 6 credits yet?
Answer: Yes. When scholarships are awarded, they will be contingent on your completing six credit hours with at least a 3.0 GPA. This will be checked after grades are posted in the summer.
If I am an undocumented or international student will I qualify for the Transition Scholarship?
Answer: Unfortunately the CE Transition Scholarship is only available to students who are U.S. Citizens. That said, there are several other scholarships that are available to undocumented and international students. You can contact the SLCC Financial Aid Office at 801-957-4410 or by email at FinancialAid@slcc.edu for more information.
Will the scholarship cover Technical programs?
Answer: Yes and No. CTE classes that are offered for college academic credit are eligible. Unfortunately, Salt Lake Technical College (SLTC) courses that are technical credit programs would not qualify. In general terms, you must be enrolled in a financial aid eligible program & courses to receive scholarship money.
