Emmanuel Santa-Martinez, Biology Professor
I love the diversity of students at SLCC. At a community college with small classrooms, I have the opportunity to make a change and help our students succeed. Our students come with different backgrounds and experiences, which makes the classroom more enriching and place where everyone can learn from each other. As an Afro-Latino queer man, I have experienced similar challenges many underrepresented students feel, and it is now a privilege to be faculty, where I can help and support the academic success of our students in science and at SLCC, by serving as a mentor and creating an inclusive learning environment.

Costa Ricans embrace the "Pura Vida" mentality. Its English translation is "pure life" or "simple life," however, it's more than just a phrase, it is a way of life. It is my way of life. I love to bring good energy to my workplace. I am always grateful for all the opportunities I have been given in Utah, and especially in this beautiful country, the United States of America.

Simmi Kaur, Student Employee
Focus on yourself and love yourself. I learned to work hard and don’t give up. In life, there are many roadblocks like family issues, relationship issues or friendship. But, never give up on the thing you value the most, which for me was education. I never put that aside for anyone. Till this day, it has never left my side.
