Concurrent Enrollment

CE Instructor Applications

Download The Annual Instructor Requirements Checklist

High school teachers wishing to teach concurrent enrollment classes must apply to teach by completing a New or Ongoing CE Instructor Application. New applications are submitted for instructors who have not formerly taught a particular SLCC course. Ongoing applications are for teachers who have been formerly approved to teach a particular course, and wish to continue teaching that course.

CE INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS

Selection criteria for high school teachers teaching concurrent enrollment are the same as criteria applied to other adjunct faculty in the various academic departments at Salt Lake Community College. CE instructor qualifications vary from course to course. For accreditation and articulation purposes SLCC concurrent enrollment cannot make exceptions to hiring requirements set by SLCC academic departments. Specific teacher qualification requirements can be found on the Course Offerings/Teacher Requirements page for each course.

APPLICATION PROCESS

High schools should carefully review the minimum requirements posted on the Course Offerings/Teacher Requirements section of the CE website to ensure that a teacher meets the minimums before submitting a teacher application. New applications must be submitted by the high school CE coordinator through MyCE. Ongoing applications can be submitted by either the coordinator or the teacher through MyCE. Each high school may assign the responsibility for submitting ongoing applications differently, so the teacher should discuss that process with the CE coordinator before submitting their ongoing application.

Once an application has been submitted, CE coordinators can track the progress of the application through MyCE (For more information on using MyCE to track instructor applications there are several video tutorials on the SLCC Concurrent Enrollment website). This process can sometimes take several weeks to a month or more depending on the workload of each individual in the pipeline. New instructor applications will require the review of the principal, district CE director, the SLCC academic department, and the dean. The application process may also include an interview with the academic department, teaching demo, exam, or other requirements set by the SLCC academic department for adjunct faculty. Ongoing applications require the high school and district review only unless there are changes to instructor credentials at SLCC and the SLCC academic department request a re-review. In these cases, SLCC will follow the procedures outlined in the “Changes to Course Offerings and Teacher Requirements” section of this handbook.

Instructors who have been approved will receive a welcome packet that includes information on getting started with concurrent enrollment. Denials should be tracked by the CE coordinator through their MyCE account. MyCE is the official record of instructor approval or denial.

CE INSTRUCTOR APPLICATION DEADLINES

March 31 – CE Instructor Application Submission Deadline – Any applications submitted after this deadline, including ongoing applications, must first be submitted through the SLCC Late Instructor Application Appeal Form. You MUST contact the Concurrent Enrollment Director prior to submitting a late application appeal. Appeals that have been submitted without contacting the CE Director first will be deleted.

Once an appeal has been received, the CE Director will work with the appropriate SLCC Academic Department to make a decision on whether or not the appeal can be supported by the department and approved. If the appeal is approved the high school will need to work with the CE Office to open the application portal in MyCE so they can submit an official instructor application.
