Working Through Issues Using SLCC Canvas
FOR TRANSFERRING GRADES FROM THE SLCC CANVAS TO THE HIGH SCHOOL CANVAS/SIS: Some high school instructors enter these weekly, others quarterly, and some tell the parents and guardians that if they want to know how their child is doing they will have to ask their child to log into SLCC Canvas and show them.
FOR GIVING STUDENTS ACCESS TO SLCC CANVAS WHO ARE NOT YET REGISTERED IN THE CLASS: Some instructors will export the content for the first couple of weeks and import it into a high school Canvas site, or they will save that content out as PDFs.
FOR HELPING STUDENTS UNDERSTAND WHY THEY CAN’T SEE THEIR SLCC COURSE IN THEIR LIST OF COURSES ON THE HIGH SCHOOL CANVAS: This often just takes reminding students several times before it finally sinks in that their college courses are on a different platform, but eventually they get it.
SOMETIMES SLCC CANVAS IS DOWN AND INSTRUCTORS ARE NOTIFIED VIA THEIR SLCC BRUINMAIL, BUT MOST CE INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS DON’T USE BRUINMAIL: I would recommend setting up your Bruinmail to forward any emails that are sent there to your high school email address. This should keep you in the loop. I would also invite your students to do the same and forward Bruinmail emails to their high school or personal email. Instructions for instructors can be found here under “Common Questions” http://www.slcc.edu/concurrentenrollment/instructors/instructor-tutorials.html and at this link for students http://www.slcc.edu/concurrentenrollment/Students/my-slcc.html.
The decision to require instructors to use SLCC Canvas is a Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) decision and not a SLCC decision. If you have concerns regarding this decision please reach out to USHE to voice those.
