HOW TO REGISTER
Our foundational Basic Computer Skills program features three courses designed to help beginners build essential digital literacy skills. This focused 14-week program prepares you for entry-level positions and administrative jobs requiring computer literacy. Participants will learn basic computer components and operations, practice keyboarding skills, and gain experience with the internet, email, Canvas, and Zoom. The curriculum also includes introductory training in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Upon completion of all three courses, you'll earn a school-issued microcredential and possess the technology literacy needed for today's workplace. Our program is ideal for career changers, those seeking to enhance their employability through practical technology training, and anyone wanting to feel comfortable with technology for personal use.
Program Structure:
The Basic Computer Skills program consists of three sequential courses.

Basic Computer Skills I: Using the Computer & Internet
Duration: 6 weeks (30 hours)
Course Description: Course one of three in the Basic Computer Skills program. This 30-hour course meets twice a week for six weeks and can be taken individually or as part of the complete Basic Computer Skills program. Participants who complete all three courses in the program will be awarded a microcredential. As a result of this computer training, participants will be able to perform basic Windows operating system tasks, and use essential digital tools, including email, web browsers, Canvas, and Zoom.

- Perform basic Windows operating system tasks including file management
- Navigate computer basics with confidence and proper digital citizenship
- Use essential digital tools including email, web browsers, Canvas, and Zoom

Basic Computer Skills II: Introduction to Word
Duration: 4 weeks (20 hours)
Course Description: Course two of three in the Basic Computer Skills program. This 20-hour course meets twice a week for four weeks and can be taken individually or as part of the complete Basic Computer Skills program. Participants who complete all three courses in the program will be awarded a microcredential. As a result of this Microsoft Office training, participants will be able to apply basic Microsoft Word skills to create, format, and edit simple documents.
What You Will Learn:
- Apply basic Microsoft Office training skills in Word processing for beginners
- Create, format, and edit simple documents with fundamental techniques
- Build practical skills through hands-on projects including resume creation
- Develop document management and basic formatting capabilities
Learning Outcomes:
- Apply basic Microsoft Word skills to create, format, and edit simple documents
- Assessment: Create a current resume
Basic Computer Skills III: Introduction to Excel
Duration: 4 weeks (20 hours)
Course Description: Course three of three in the Basic Computer Skills program. This 20-hour course meets twice a week for four weeks and can be taken individually or as part of the complete Basic Computer Skills program. Participants who complete all three courses in the program will be awarded a microcredential. As a result of this computer training, participants will be able to create a basic Excel spreadsheet to organize data, perform simple calculations, and apply basic cell formatting and layout techniques.

Your tuition includes a textbook, access to classroom computers, and dedicated class time to complete assignments with instructor support.
Microcredential Upon Completion
Upon successful completion of all courses in the Basic Computer Skills program, students will receive:
- A Workforce Training Microcredential issued by SLCC
This certificate validates your digital literacy in navigating the computer system and working with various digital tools and applications and demonstrates your readiness for roles in entry-level positions that require basic computer skills. They can be shared with employers, added to your resume, or uploaded to your LinkedIn profile to showcase your skills.
The Basic Computer Skills Certificate Program is eligible for Strategic Workforce Initiative (SWI) funding to cover 50% of tuition costs. This financial aid option makes our affordable computer training even more accessible.
What is SWI Funding?
Strategic Workforce Initiative (SWI) funding pays up to 50% of training costs for multiple programs leading to entry-level careers. This educational funding is available for Utah residents and is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
How to Apply for SWI Funding
To see if you qualify for this tuition assistance program:
- Check your eligibility by clicking the SWI funding link
- Follow the steps to complete and submit your application
- If approved, you will receive instructions to register for your selected program

- Funding is based on Utah residency
- You must complete a SWI application to determine eligibility
- SWI funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis
- This funding supports job-ready skills training for in-demand occupations

Ready to start your journey toward digital literacy? Follow these steps to register for the Basic Computer Skills program:
Create a profile in the Enrole registration system
- Select Register Now next to your chosen program. This will take you to enrole.com/slcc.
- Select Sign In.
- If you are a returning student, login to the registration system and skip to step 6.
- Select CREATE PROFILE and enter your personal information. Be sure to review and accept the Financial Responsibility statement. Provide accurate contact details for program communications.
- Select Submit to save your information and login to the registration system.
Apply for funding
- If you do not qualify or are not interested in tuition assistance skip to step 13.
- Towards the bottom of the blue menu, select Funding Sources for Eligible Programs. Select SWI.
- Select Register.
- A shopping cart with the funding application is added. Select Next.
- A form displays. Enter required information and then select Next.
- Confirm your selection and then click Submit.
- Your application will be reviewed. Wait at least 2 business days for an email with the status of your application. If approved, the email will contain a discount code.
Register for training
Navigate to Computer & Networking > Basic Computer Skills Workforce Microcredential
- Select the Basic Computer Skills course.
- Select Register.
- If you plan to register and pay for the rest of the training in the program, select Continue
- Shopping and repeat steps 15-16 until all training is added, otherwise skip to step 17.
- Enter discount code (if approved), and then click Apply Discount Code.
- Select Next and the remaining prompts to enter your payment information, ending with Submit.
