The courses under the Composites Technician program gives students a broad introduction to the world of advanced composites, with a focus on carbon fiber reinforced epoxy systems. These courses are offered in a lecture/lab setting with a 30% being lectures and 70% in the lab. As a result of this training, students will learn topics such as basic measuring, layup notation, and the science of composite materials required to be a composite technician. In the lab, students will perform hands-on lab projects covering the fabrication skills and techniques needed to fabricate quality composite parts. Students will choose a pathway in basic pre-impregnated layup, wet layup, resin infusion, filament winding/roll wrapping processes. Chemical and lab safety as well as foreign object debris (FOD) awareness is always practiced. These skills are essential to manufacturing composite parts in the aerospace, sporting goods, and automotive fields.
