The Placement Process helps us get to know you better. These classes complete your Composition (EN—English/ESL) and Quantitative Literacy/Quantitative Studies (QL/QS—Math) Core Skills requirements.
About These Quizzes
By taking these placement tests, you agree to follow the Student Code of Conduct regarding "Academic Honesty". You agree to take these exams without any outside help of any form. Textbooks, notes, search engines, websites, help from friends or family, etc. are NOT allowed.
Evidence of violation of the Academic Honesty clause will result in test scores being invalidated and may affect retest options.

Each placement quiz has a 90-minute time limit that allows more time than you may need. The estimated time it should take you to complete the entire process is 30 minutes. Once you have completed your placement, your scores should be available in our system within 1 hour after you complete your test. However, during peak times you should allow up to 1-2 business days to register.

Get Started
Your assessment is offered online remotely so you can take it anywhere you have reliable internet. You will be given one attempt so please make sure you are prepared before logging in and starting your exam. Your test must be completed in one sitting. Incomplete tests will be invalid. Retest fees and policies will apply after first attempt. Choose your answers carefully, you will not be able to go backwards in the test. If you leave the test, you will not be able to resume your session. We ask that you do not come into our testing centers unless you would like additional support.
Before starting your assessment, please read the information below and follow the steps:
*If you are a new student and have not already done so, you must create your MySLCC account. You will need to setup MFA (MultiFactor Authenticator) for all SLCC logins. Visit technical support for account assistance.
- Log into your MySLCC account.
- Navigate to the 'Testing Services' tile card on your home page. If you do not see the testing tile card, please go to the bottom of the page and click on 'Discover More'. In the search box, type 'testing'. You can pin this tile card to your home page for future reference.
- When you are ready click ‘Start Test’
- You will be prompted to log into Mobius. Click ‘Use your school account.’
- Click the “Accept” button to agree to the “Terms of Use” document.
- Click the “Enroll in a Class” button on the “Welcome” screen.
- Click the check box next to the “SLCC Placement Process", then click the “Enroll” button.
- Click the “Confirm” button.
- On the “Welcome” screen click on “SLCC Placement Process”, you can choose between math, English and ESL placement. You can take each quiz once. Decide which quiz you would like to take first and click on it.
- After you have completed your test take a screenshot or print a copy of your placement results for your records.

Are You An English Language Learner Or An ESL Student?
Our ESL classes might be for you. They are taught by instructors with special language experience and offer learning environments specific to English Language Learner's aptitudes and needs.
If you answer 'yes' to any of the following statements, we suggest you take the ESL placement process
- I am still learning to read and write in English.
- I went to a school in another country, and all or most of my courses were taught in a language other than English.
- I took ESL (English language learning) courses. I am an international student or a resident of another country outside the United States.
- I have taken ESL courses.
- I took my GED in a language other than English.
Retest
If you would like to go through the process again, it will cost $15 and is non-refundable. We have strict retesting guidelines listed below:
- You can retake the Math exam once per semester and are required to wait 3 weeks between attempts.
- You can retake the English exam once per semester and are required to wait 24 hours between attempts.
- You can retake the ESL exam once per semester and are required to wait 24 hours between attempts.
