Dreamers at SLCC
Nearly half of all undocumented college students in Utah attend SLCC and make up 2.5% of the college's student headcount. Often referred to as Dreamers (citizens of other countries brought to the U.S. as children), they seek education to achieve the American Dream.
Many are registered to work legally under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). A June 18, 2020 Supreme Court ruling allows DACA to continue, giving temporary legal status to the 8,680 DACA-registered individuals in Utah, removing, for now, any threat of deportation.
The following videos highlight life for undocumented SLCC students, in their own words.
