At Salt Lake Community College, we believe that the heart of assessment is about teaching and learning, how we can reinforce effective learning happening in our programs and how we can improve upon our courses, curricula, and pedagogy. Thus, the best assessments are those that are local - focused on specific courses and programs - and respond to the needs of students and faculty within those programs.

To facilitate assessment according to this philosophy, we have updated this central assessment site according to the Transparency Framework created by the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA).

As much as possible, assessment processes and results should be open and accessible, and the sections of this page will serve as a place to highlight the work of faculty as they investigate student learning at the college.

Faculty governance of assessment practices comes from the Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Committee (SLOA). Its primary tasks are to support, train, and assist faculty in conducting program assessment and collaborate with the Office of Learning Advancement (OLA) to create and review assessment policies, procedures, and resources.
