Industry and Workplace Experience
Certain licenses and evaluated workforce training may qualify for SLCC Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) when aligned with current course offerings. This is not an all-inclusive list, and our course offerings are always growing. If you think your certificate, license, or documented workplace experience lines up with a course or courses in your degree program, let us know! We’ll work with the department to see if it meets their course standards.
Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
Students receive credit for their POST certification through one of two paths. First, students who register and complete training through the SLCC Law Enforcement Academy will automatically have credit applied to their SLCC transcript for CJ 1910 and/or CJ 1920. Second, students who did not complete their training at SLCC, but are Utah Peace Officer Certified, can receive Criminal Justice (CJ) elective credit by submitting copies of their SFO and/or LEO POST certificates to receive credit.
Students must be in a Criminal Justice or related program to receive this credit.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced EMT (AEMT)
Students can complete EMT and/or AEMT training at the SLCC Institute of Public Safety earning credit for HSEM 2300 Emergency Medical Technician and/or HSEM 2350 Advanced EMT.
Prior Learning credit can be awarded to those who completed their training with another provider and are licensed by the State of Utah. Students must be pursing the AEMT program to be awarded HSEM 2300.
Construction Management
OSHA 30
Students who are enrolled in a Construction-related program can submit a copy of their OSHA 30 card to receive credit for CMGT 1130.
The student’s program must require CMGT 1130, and the OSHA 30 card has to have been issued in the past 18 months.
