Mojdeh Sakaki, MPA
Program Manager
Mojdeh studied design and earned a Master of Public Administration from University of Utah. In 2009, Mojdeh founded the Fashion Institute, the only degree granting fashion program in the state of Utah.
Currently, Mojdeh manages the Fashion Institute as well as the Interior Design program at SLCC that she developed from continuing education to a degree granting program. Mojdeh believes that education is the most powerful tool that empowers individuals with knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities that are essential for success in various aspects of life, from career and financial well being to personal growth and social engagement.
Mojdeh’s mission has been to serve the students, faculty, and her community for the past 25 years. She has lived in various parts of the world and speaks three languages fluently.
Maria Skelton
Full Professor
Maria holds a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching from Southern Utah University and a B.A. in Clothing & Textiles from Brigham Young University, with additional studies in business and fashion design. She brings over two decades of industry experience to the classroom, having owned and operated multiple fashion businesses, including RSFT, Inc., where her après-ski and outdoor apparel was sold in high-end boutiques across the U.S. and Canada, and featured in the Sundance Catalog.
Maria joined Salt Lake Community College as an adjunct in 2004 and now serves as a Full Professor in the Fashion Institute. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Fashion, Pattern Drafting, Draping, Portfolio Development, and Fashion Internship. Her teaching emphasizes hands on learning, creativity, and connecting classroom skills to real world industry practices.
Matt Monson
Assistant Professor
Matt studied Fine Art at Utah State University and graduated from the University of Utah in 2004 with a degree in Marketing and Design. He founded model.citizen, a boutique for locally made clothing and gifts, and launched the SLC Fashion Stroll, both running from 2007 to 2012. From 2009 to 2014, he served as executive director for several local nonprofits supporting arts and community.
Matt began teaching at Salt Lake Community College in 2009 and became a full-time professor in 2019. He teaches courses such as Entrepreneurship, Visual Merchandising, Retail Buying, and Fashion Illustration. His teaching focuses on collaboration, hands on learning, and community engagement. As a public artist and creative professional, Matt helps students build real world skills and pursue their own creative paths.
