Global/International Learning

Global/International Learning courses, programs, and co-curricular projects at SLCC help students explore cultures, life experiences, and worldviews different from their own.

Examples of global/international learning courses, programs, and/or co-curricular projects include:

• Courses and programs that use a comparative framework to examine the dynamics of power and how it shapes such issues as human rights, social justice, freedom, power and privilege, gender, economies, religion, environment and race relations. Frequently, intercultural studies are augmented by experiential learning in the community (service learning and learning communities) and/or by study abroad/"glocal" studies.
• Projects and activities that collaboratively and equitably address the world’s most pressing and enduring issues through critical and creative thinking, and experiential learning.
• Courses and programs that require students to explore, explain, and take informed positions on the complexities surrounding identity formation, including how deeply rooted identity is in culture, language, religion, power and borders.
• Projects and activities that encourage students to think about the interconnectedness and interdependence of global systems and the complexity of national and/or global issues.
