African American Read-In & Black Student Union Annual Poetry Slam

The Black Student Union Poetry Slam is one of the most popular events hosted annually by the BSU/BHM committee. The event aims to showcase Black Culture through Black Literature. Open to everyone, regardless of ethnicity, the Poetry Slam features volunteers reading written works, traditionally poetry, the only rule is that the writing must be from a Black artist.

Support Black Businesses Pop-Up Shop

Support Black Business Pop-Up Shop allows entrepreneurs to showcase their ventures and connect with the students, faculty, and staff at Salt Lake Community College, as well as the broader community. The goal of the event is to give back to those businesses by encouraging support through purchases, increasing visibility, and fostering community engagement. By supporting Black-owned businesses, we can contribute to their growth and success.

We encourage everyone to support Black businesses whenever possible - your contributions make a meaningful impact!


Black Excellence Educational Dinner

RSVP for the Black Excellence Educational Dinner

The Black Excellence Dinner is a celebration of achievement, resilience, and community, highlighting the rich contributions of Black individuals in education, leadership, and service. This event serves as both a recognition ceremony and an educational experience, aiming to inspire and uplift attendees through storytelling, and a meaningful dialogue.

Highlights Include:

  • Keynote Speaker: A distinguished educational scholar, Dr. William Smith, will share insights on Black excellence and its impact on society, and in the community.
  • Awards Ceremony: Honoring students, faculty, and/or community leaders for their outstanding contributions and achievements.
  • Cultural Performance: Featuring jazz, and soul music, and spoken word to celebrate Black heritage and creativity.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connecting students, professionals, and community members to build partnerships and mentorships.

The Black Excellence Dinner is not only a night of celebration but also a platform to educate and empower, ensuring that the legacy of excellence continues to thrive in our communities.
