Juggling School with the Help of Metallica Scholars
Born and raised in Utah, Lexi Horrocks starts her days at 6:30 a.m., balancing high school classes and the Surgical Tech program at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). With her busy schedule, she often returns home after 7:00 p.m., but she finds ways to manage her time effectively.
Lexi enjoys traveling, exploring new places, and trying different foods, especially sushi. Her lifelong passion for surgery led her to discover the Metallica Scholars initiative through her program. “I was very intrigued that the rock band was funding the high school Surgical Tech program. I thought it was awesome!” she shares.
This scholarship has allowed her to attend college while still in high school, and she looks forward to joining the workforce soon after graduation. Lexi aspires to work in a large hospital’s cardiac team while remaining open to various interests within the medical field. She highlights the supportive environment of the surgical tech program, encouraging others to join. “We are all on a team working for the same goal, which makes me feel appreciated and capable,” she says.
Lexi extends her gratitude to Metallica for enabling her education: “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to pursue the education I love.”
