A Head Start
Trevor Garcia, a Utah native, is currently balancing his final year of high school along with the Surgical Technology program at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). This opportunity is something he dreamed of since his sophomore year when he first visited the campus. “I met the program director, who is now my professor,” Trevor recalled. That same professor provided him with information about the Surgical Tech program, which Trevor found fascinating. “As I researched the program, I discovered the Metallica Scholars Initiative, which piqued my interest since my family and I are huge Metallica fans,” he said.
Trevor does not take this opportunity lightly. “Thanks to this program, I’m able to get a head start on my career and education, an opportunity that likely wouldn’t have been possible without the Metallica funding,” Trevor explained.
He expresses his gratitude for the Metallica Scholars Initiative scholarship, which has reduced his financial stress and allowed him to pursue his passion for healthcare. “Because of the Metallica Scholarship, my focus has solely been on learning, without the burden of financial worries that typically come with obtaining a higher education degree.”
Trevor is eager to begin his clinical rotations and work in operating rooms to enhance the knowledge and skills he has gained so far. He also plans to continue his education at the University of Utah, where he aims to pursue a medical degree and ultimately become a surgeon.
