Areas of Emphasis
Animation
Students learn to develop foundation drawing and design skills, apply animation principles in time-based visualizations, and illustrate a working knowledge of quality visual storytelling. An associate degree provides a smoother transition to a four-year animation program.
Graphic Design & Communication
Bringing real-world experience and expertise into visual communication projects, faculty teach students about typography, layout, design, brand identity, paper, printing, package design, advertising methods, file preparation, Adobe software and more.
Illustration
Students who enter this area of specialization should acquire a high level of drawing skill and the ability to think about the symbolic qualities of form in order to communicate ideas visually. An AAS degree prepares students for entry-level work in traditional and computer illustration.
Multimedia
Students become adept at using computers and applications to edit sound and video, create 3D graphics, animation and digital artwork, as well as designing/producing printed collateral and developing websites. An AAS degree prepares students for entry-level work creating content for Internet, television, mobile devices and turnkey applications.
Photography
Students acquire essential visual communication through exceptional composition, light, and technology through the art of making imagery. Define your photographic future at SLCC.
Web Design
Students obtain both creative and technical skill sets in web design, HTML, CSS and JavaScript alongside structural knowledge of web marketing, web animation, e-commerce, the social and mobile web. An AAS degree prepares students for entry-level work in the design, creation, and maintenance of websites.
