Microsoft Word & Excel Training
Microsoft is the #1 office suite worldwide, and employers consistently list proficiency in Word and Excel as essential skills. Our comprehensive training courses provide the foundation to create professional documents and spreadsheets while preparing participants for Microsoft Office Associate certification.
Whether you're new to Microsoft Office or looking to certify, this program delivers practical, hands-on experience needed to succeed in academic and professional environments. Certification demonstrates expertise in critical administrative office skills.
What You Will Learn
- Create professional documents and resumes
- Format and design documents using styles, layouts, and tables
- Work with graphics, templates, and document collaboration tools
- Build and format spreadsheets with formulas and data analysis
- Create charts, manage data, and organize information effectively
Schedule
Classes meet two days per week (M/W or T/TH) and are in-person. Sessions are offered at various times throughout the year—refer to the schedule section below for current course dates and times.
Microcredential Upon Completion
Upon successful completion of the Microsoft Word or Excel Associate programs, students will receive:
- A Workforce Training Microcredential issued by SLCC
- Vouchers to sit for the Microsoft Associate Certification

Microsoft Word
WTMW100 | Introduction to Word
Duration: 2 Weeks (12 hours)
Introduction to Word introduces students to Microsoft Word where they will create a resume, learn the fundamentals of creating professional letters, and gain confidence with their typing and word processing skills.
Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate a basic level of proficiency using MS Word
- Create a current resume
WTMW200 | Intermediate Word
Duration: 4.5 Weeks (27 hours)
Intermediate Word builds upon the foundational skills taught in the introduction course. As a result of this training, participants will be able to manipulate graphics and pictures; create templates; collaborate and track changes on documents; format using the Styles tool and annotate documents. At the conclusion of Intermediate Word, participants will have the opportunity to sit for the Microsoft Word Associate Certification (passing score is 70%). Vouchers are included.

Microsoft Excel
WTMX100 | Introduction to Excel
Duration: 2 Weeks (12 hours)
Introduction to Excel introduces students to Microsoft Excel where they will learn ribbon commands, formulas and how to create and use spreadsheets. Participants will create a basic budget Excel spreadsheet using formulas; and copy, move, and format data in cells.
Learning Outcomes:
- Create a basic Excel spreadsheet using formulas
- Copy, move, and format data in cells
WTM200 | Intermediate Excel
Duration: 4 Weeks (24 hours)
Intermediate Excel builds upon the foundational skills taught in the introduction course. Participants will analyze data and tables including Conditional Formatting and charts and manipulate pivot charts to visualize data in different scenarios. At the conclusion of the Intermediate Excel course, students will have the option to sit for the Microsoft Excel Associate exam after a review night. Participants earn their Excel Associate Certification with a score of 70% or higher. Vouchers are included.
Learning Outcomes:

WTMA300 | Advanced Excel
Duration: 4 Weeks (24 hours)
Advanced Excel goes deeper into the advanced functions of Excel, including pivot tables and data retrieval. Participants will create and run advanced macros and formulas and manage workbook settings including collaboration options and version control. At the conclusion of the Advanced Excel course, participants will have the option to sit for the Microsoft Excel Expert Certification.
Learning Outcomes:
- Analyze data and tables including Conditional Formatting and charts
- Manipulate pivot charts to visualize data in different scenarios
- Create and run advanced macros and formulas
- Manage workbook settings including collaboration options and version control
The Microsoft Word training series is eligible for Short Term Intensive Training (STIT) funding to cover 50% of tuition costs. This financial aid option makes our affordable training even more accessible.
What is STIT Funding?
Short Term Intensive Training (STIT) funding pays up to 50% of training costs for multiple programs leading to high-demand careers. This educational funding is available for Utah residents and is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
How to Apply for STIT Funding
Enrole account required to apply (see “How to Register”)
To see if you qualify for this tuition assistance program:
- Check your eligibility by clicking the STIT funding link
- Follow the steps to complete and submit your application
- If approved, you will receive instructions to register for your selected program
Important Notes
- Funding is based on Utah residency
- You must complete a STIT application to determine eligibility
- STIT funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis
- This funding supports job-ready skills training for in-demand occupations

Ready to start your journey toward proficiency in Microsoft Office products? Follow these steps to register:
Create a profile in the Enrole registration system
1. Select Register Now next to your chosen program. This will take you to enrole.com/slcc.
2. Select Sign In.
3. If you are a returning student, login to the registration system and skip to step 6.
4. Select CREATE PROFILE and enter your personal information. Be sure to review and accept the Financial Responsibility statement. Provide accurate contact details for program communications.
5. Select Submit to save your information and login to the registration system.
Apply for Funding
6. If you do not qualify or are not interested in tuition assistance skip to step 13.
7. Towards the bottom of the blue menu, select Funding Sources for Eligible Programs. Select SWI.
8. Select Register.
9. A shopping cart with the funding application is added. Select Next.
10. A form displays. Enter required information and then select Next.
11. Confirm your selection and then click Submit.
12. Your application will be reviewed. Wait at least 2 business days for an email with the status of your application. If approved, the email will contain a discount code.
Register for training
Navigate to Computer & Networking > Basic Computer Skills Workforce Microcredential
13. Select the Basic Computer Skills course.
14. Select Register.
15. If you plan to register and pay for the rest of the training in the program, select Continue
16. Shopping and repeat steps 15-16 until all training is added, otherwise skip to step 17.
17. Enter discount code (if approved), and then click Apply Discount Code.
18. Select Next and the remaining prompts to enter your payment information, ending with Submit.
