Getting Started with ADS

Welcome to Accessibility and Disability Services!

We suggest getting started on your accommodation process as quickly as possible, that way everything can be ready by the time your class starts. The steps to acquire accommodations for your class are listed below:

Apply to ADS

You can do this by either clicking the button below or you can find it on the Home page.

Within a few business days, you’ll get a call or an email from a member of our staff inviting you to schedule an appointment with your assigned ADS advisor. Your advisor will have the information about the accommodations that will help with your classroom experience. You can get a head start on some ideas by going to our Accommodations page, where we’ve listed our most common accommodations.

You’ll need to make sure that you send or bring us all the necessary documentation for your accommodations. If you aren’t sure what is necessary, you can check out our Forms and Documentation page. You can bring that documentation to the meeting with your ADS Advisor, but it’s recommended that you get them sent in first. That way we have time to process your request and you can get you started right away.

Your semester request is the official entry into the system. Accommodate is the portal that will display all of your accommodations, which classes they apply to, and which professors will be your contact about accommodations. You’ll submit your semester request directly into Accommodate.

Below is a video tutorial outlining how to submit semester requests.

What to Expect: Your First Meeting with Your ADS Advisor

Your meeting will be scheduled for an hour, but they are typically shorter than that. An informational meeting typically lasts 25-45 minutes.

Your Accessibility Advisor will go over your disability/condition(s) and your documentation. You and your advisor will also discuss any barriers and limitations you may be experiencing during your time at Salt Lake Community College.

Your advisor will work with you to determine appropriate accommodations.

If needed, your advisor will also go over any additional resources that could make your college experience more accessible.

Documentation guidelines can be found on the Forms and Documentation page. Although it is not required for your first meeting, we highly recommend you provide documentation for your first meeting to make the accommodation review process faster.
