Federal Work Study

Support student retention by providing career related experiences while strengthening your department's connection to the student culture. 

Federal Work Study Description:

The Federal Work Study (FWS) Program provides financial support for eligible students for jobs on-campus, in local schools and in the community.   Students may qualify for up to $8,000 per year through their financial aid and work part-time (up to 20 hours per week). 

Benefits of hiring a work study student 

  • Federal Work Study Program covers funding for the position, up to $8,000/per academic year 
  • Support student retention through campus employment 
  • Help support low income student in finding employment on campus

A successful Work Study experience should provide the student the opportunity for: 

  • Relevant, current career-related work experience 
  • Direct exposure and contact with employees in similar positions 
  • Ability to gain on the job training while demonstrating skills and knowledge acquired 
  • Flexibility to allow for curriculum-driven time conflicts
