K-12 Outreach and Recruitment
Crossroads AHEC recruits young people from rural and urban underserved areas to health professions and to prepare them for success applying to and completing health professions training programs.
Classroom Presentations
- Facilitating introductory experiences designed to stimulate students’ interest in health and public health careers. Specific activities include:
- Middle School classroom presentations (e.g., interactive classroom activities, guest speakers representing various health and public health professions). Learn more about our Middle School Mobile Labs
- High School classroom presentations/activities (e.g., organ dissection, pharmacy compounding), which will include provision of information and materials providing career and academic requirements and program information. Learn more about our High School Mobile Labs

Career Exploration Activities
- Providing career exploration activities designed to provide students with in-depth understanding of necessary skills and duties common to a variety of specific health professions. Specific activities include:
- Tours of academic institutions and health professions’ training programs
- Career Fairs designed to allow career exploration across all health professions programs
- Internships designed to give students a more in-depth look at various health professions
- Mentor programs (get from Monica)
- Conducting career exploration activities to provide students with in-depth understanding of educational requirements and academic options for careers in healthcare.
- Our Pre-Health Summer Program is designed to help students prepare academically for a health professions training program.
