The Uncanny Traveler: Surrealism in the 21st Century features a host of wonderfully weird artworks by 39 local artists who are incorporating the century-old art movement into their current work. These exceptionally talented artists, recruited by gallery curator James Walton, are reinterpreting and redefining surrealism, each in their own distinct ways. Some are processing surrealism through the lens of our modern times, while others move in a more nostalgic direction, and others still are envisioning a surreal future. All were asked to consider three concepts:

TRAVELERS - from anonymous figures to warped archetypes to beautiful monsters to fictional ancestors to the supernatural and the superheroes to powerful dream-versions of ourselves, these are the incredible beings that inhabit and travel through these dreamlike worlds.

Join us as we explore the endless boundaries of surrealism from a wide variety of outstanding artists and, even more mind-bending, witness the impossible as curator James Walton distorts space and warps reality while attempting the ill-advised and utterly absurd pursuit of fitting 39 artists into a single 1,000-square-foot gallery space.
