Chris Lacombe

General Counsel

Chris Lacombe has been College General Counsel since August 2017. Previously, Chris was a State of Utah Assistant Attorney General serving in that office’s Natural Resources and Education Divisions between 2011 and 2017.

In Natural Resources, Chris was instrumental in Utah’s pursuit of its RS 2477 litigation against the federal government seeking to keep nearly 12,000 R.S. 2477 roads in 22 rural Utah counties. In the Education Division, AAG Lacombe was assigned to the Utah State Board of Education and SLCC before assuming his current position.

Chris is originally from the Adirondack Region of upstate New York State. From 1996 until 2011, Chris served as Regional Attorney for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. In this position, Chris provided legal representation in permitting and enforcement of federal and state environmental laws in an eight county region of northeastern New York. Mr. Lacombe has tried a large number of civil and criminal trials as a private practice attorney and an attorney in the U.S. Navy.

Besides Chris’ legal experience, he taught Environmental and Business Law for 20 years at both the community college and university level. In addition, he has been an elected public school board member and appointed to serve on Catholic School Boards of Education. Chris has also served on the Board of Directors of a number of organizations.

Mr. Lacombe is a graduate of Western New England College School of Law and LeMoyne College. He is licensed to practice law in Utah and New York.

Chris and Suzanne, his wife, resides in Sandy. They have two daughters, two sons-in-law and four grandchildren.

Steve Gordon

Assistant Attorney General

Steve Gordon has worked in the Education Division of the Utah Attorney General’s Office (the “AGO”) since 2019. He is currently the division’s Deputy Director. During his time with the AGO, he has been assigned to SLCC and has provided legal advice and assistance to SLCC’s Associate Vice President of People and Workplace Culture, staff supervisors, department Chairs, Associate Deans, Deans, General Counsel, Provost, Cabinet, and President.

Steve grew up in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake City and attended Highland High School. He then attended the University of Utah and received a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1986, graduating magna cum laude. After working for two years, he began law school at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1988. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1991, graduating Order of the Coif (top 10% of his graduating class). During law school, he was a staff member, and then a member of the editorial board, of the UTAH LAW REVIEW.

After law school, Steve served as a law clerk for the Honorable Bruce S. Jenkins who was the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Utah. After this one-year appointment, he joined the law firm of Parsons Behle & Latimer (“PBL”) in Salt Lake City, where he worked from 1992 to 1995. His areas of emphasis included litigation, employment law, and dispute resolution.

In 1995, Steve joined the law firm of Durham Jones & Pinegar (“DJP”) where he ultimately became a partner. His areas of emphasis included litigation, employment law, and dispute resolution. While working at DJP, Steve represented clients before mediators, arbitrators, administrative agencies, juries, state and federal trial courts, and state and federal appellate courts. In 2011, he became a partner of a small law firm in Park City where he was involved in a wide variety of administrative and litigation matters.
