Music Recording Technology
The Music Recording Technology (MRT) program at Salt Lake Community College, housed within the Music Department, offers a two-year AAS degree for students who wish to pursue a profession in audio engineering and production. The program includes substantial opportunities for individual creative endeavor. The program also offers a Certificate of Proficiency in Music Technology to students who complete a specified range of coursework.
The MRT Program provides education in recording studio procedures and operation of professional recording studio equipment in a dedicated modern studio environment. Students in the AAS program will utilize the recording studio and associated facilities in creating their own work, collaborating with other students and with faculty to gain practical experience as recording technicians. Students also have opportunities to learn about live sound reinforcement, MIDI programming and sound design, motion picture sound, and game audio design, in addition to the more traditional music engineering path.
