Penina Fitiao

Penina Fitiao

Assistant Director

Talofa lava! My name is Penina Fitiao (she/they), and I’m a proud first-generation college student. My academic journey began right here at Salt Lake Community College, and I later earned a Bachelor's degree in International Studies with an emphasis in Latin American Studies, followed by a Master’s in Education Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah. Throughout my college experience, I found strength and belonging through the communities I built, especially through student clubs and organizations. That involvement not only supported me academically but also ignited my passion for helping other students succeed. I'm here to support you and answer any questions you may have about SLCC and how to make the most of your time here.

Coordinator

I’ve worked at Salt Lake Community College for over 20 years, starting as an international student and now serving as Orientation Coordinator. As an SLCC alum, this campus is like home to me. With experience in both the U.S. and Indonesia, I bring a global perspective and speak Indonesian fluently. I love connecting with students from diverse backgrounds and helping them feel supported. Seeing students grow from nervous newcomers to confident college pros is the most rewarding part of my work. If you’re new to SLCC or just need a hand getting started, I’m here to help

Hi, I'm Sophie! I graduated with my bachelors in Geography after bouncing around to a few different schools. Post-college, I worked in nonprofit and local government before joining the Orientation & Transition team at SLCC. I struggled to navigate higher education and career pathways, so I am passionate about helping new and existing students with their college journey - wherever they are starting from. I love the outdoors, playing music, cooking, and sewing.
