HOW TO REGISTER
Basic Computer Skills is a 24-week program that is made up of 3 sections:
- Basic Computer Skills I: Using the Computer and Internet
- Basic Computer Skills II: Introduction to Word and Job Readiness
- Basic Computer Skills III: Introduction to Excel and PowerPoint
Class is held two days a week – M/W or T/TH. The first class is instructional, and the second class is a lab. Students meeting all the course requirements will receive a Basic Computer Skills Certificate from SLCC at the end of the program.
Basic Computer Skills I: Using the Computer & Internet
This 7-week course is intended for students who are new to computers and want support in learning to navigate and complete basic computer actions. Students will learn proper keyboarding skills, hardware and software components, and how to safely access internet, email and social media.
Basic Computer Skills II: Intro to Word and Job Readiness
This 7-week course introduces students to Microsoft Word where they will create a resume, learn the fundamentals of creating professional letters, and gain confidence with their typing and word processing skills.
Basic Computer Skills III: Intro to Excel and PowerPoint
This 10-week course builds on the skills students learned in BCS I and II to understand the fundamentals of Microsoft Excel, including ribbon commands, formulas, and shortcuts to create a working budget. Students will also be introduced to Microsoft PowerPoint where they will be tasked with creating a PowerPoint Presentation as a final project.
The Basic Computer Skills program is eligible for STIT funding to cover 50% of tuition. Utah residency is required. To see if you qualify for STIT Funding and to complete the application:
- Check eligibility by clicking the STIT funding link
- Follow the steps to fill out and submit your application. If approved, you will receive instructions to register for the program you selected.
- Select the REGISTER NOW button next to the program your are interested in.
(You will be taken to the Enrole Registration System to complete your registration and enrollment in your chosen program. Follow the prompts to complete your application.) - Click on SIGN IN
- Select CREATE PROFILE
Enter your details, including reviewing, and accepting the Financial Responsibility statement. - Submit Profile

- Wait for the approval and the discount code.
- Return to the Register Now button and Add the course to your SHOPPING CART
