Building Automation Systems (BAS) controls technicians use automation and control systems to monitor and control building wide systems, such as HVAC, lighting, alarms, and security access and cameras.
Building Automation Systems includes Level 1 and Level 2 certificates. This BAS Level 1 comprehensive training program covers the functions a BAS Contractor performs on a project and the major phases of a typical BAS project; describes how controllers and devices are organized into various levels of a generalized controls pyramid; programs the Easy I/O controller to include all necessary inputs and monitoring devices commonly used in BAS industry; and conducts commissioning and loop-tuning activities of a typical building automation control system.
The BAS program offers Internships and mentoring opportunities with industry leaders and is an excellent entry-point for students contemplating a career in engineering.
The pay range for “controls technicians,” an entry-level job, is $37,700-$80,900, that’s better than retail or fast foods!
For students new to the field including career changers and military veterans, tuition may be free thanks to a generous grant from Johnson Controls. Almost everyone else will qualify for STIT funding from the State of Utah, which reduces tuition by 50%.
