Bruin Emergency Fund Application

The Bruin Emergency Fund provides one-time financial assistance of up to $1,000 to SLCC students enrolled in at least one class who face unforeseen financial emergencies. These funds are not for routine expenses or as a consistent supplement to your education funding sources.

Eligibility

Consideration will only be given to students who have experienced an unforeseen financial emergency, such as:

  • Medical and mental healthcare expenses
  • Transportation issues, including vehicle repairs
  • Critical past due housing or utility expenses
  • Loss of income

Note: Requests for help with tuition and fees cannot be considered. For tuition and fees assistance, please contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

Application Process

  1. Meet with the Student Support Case Manager: Before filling out the application, schedule a meeting with the Student Support Case Manager in the Dean of Students Office. This step is mandatory.
  2. You will be asked to provide the following information on the application:
    • Dollar amount requested (up to $1,000).
    • Description of the circumstances impacting your ability to stay enrolled and complete your studies at SLCC.
    • Explanation of how this assistance will help you succeed as a student, including other resources you've accessed.
    • Supporting documents of your unforeseen financial emergency (e.g., rental statements, utility bills, unemployment letters, or a statement from someone familiar with your situation).
    • A photo of yourself to be shared with the donor(s) supporting the Bruin Emergency Fund. If you have concerns about this, contact Jose Rodriguez Hernandez.
