Bruin Dreams Mentorship Program

A Supportive Pathway for Scholarship Recipients

The Bruin Dreams Mentorship Program is designed to support all Bruin Dreams Scholarship recipients as they navigate the Utah higher education system. You must be a recipient of the Bruin Dreams Scholarship to participate in this program

As part of the Bruin Dreams scholarship requirements, all recipients are expected to participate in this mentorship initiative, where they will gain the tools and support necessary to thrive at SLCC and beyond.

Purpose of the Mentorship Program

The mentorship program is crafted to connect students with individuals who can offer guidance, advice, and resources to help ensure success during their time at SLCC.

Recipients of the Bruin Dreams Scholarship will be matched with one of the following:

This group provides a safe space and tailored support for undocumented students, offering specific resources that address the unique challenges they may face.

Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to connect with experienced faculty or staff who are familiar with the SLCC community and can provide academic and professional guidance.

Students will also have the chance to engage with a peer mentor, someone who has gone through similar experiences and can offer first-hand advice about navigating college life, classes, and campus resources.

Program Requirements

All recipients are required to attend a mentorship orientation session with Dream Center Coordinator Cristina Guerrero to discuss expectations before meeting with their assigned mentor. Orientation can be a virtual group session or held one-on-one if students cannot attend the group orientation.

Students must meet with their mentor at least twice during the semester.

  • First Meeting (within the first half of the semester): Mentor and mentee will introduce themselves, discuss the student's goals at SLCC, and set one goal to be completed by the end of the semester.
  • Second Meeting (before the end of the semester): The mentor will follow up to check on the students progress toward their goal and offer any additional support needed.
  • Note: Mentors and mentees are encouraged to meet as often as theyd like, but must meet no less than twice a semester.
  • First-Time Recipients: Attend at least one college-sponsored event approved by the Dream Center Coordinator.
  • Returning Recipients: Volunteer at least one college-sponsored event, with approval from the Dream Center Coordinator.
  • First-Time Recipients: Meet with the Writing and Rhetoric Fellow to complete a personal statement.
  • Returning Recipients: Meet with the Writing and Rhetoric Fellow to create and/or review their resume.
  • To contact the Writing and Rhetoric Fellow, visit the Connect with Us page.

All recipients must attend the Bruin Dreams Dinner (Fall Semester) or the Bruin Dreams Service Project (Spring Semester).

Mentees are required to complete an evaluation of their participation in the mentorship program to ensure that all requirements were met before the designated deadline.
