Learning assistants Request Timeline
Spring & Fall LA Requests
- LA Request Forms opens after adjunct instructors have been assigned (usually two months before classes start).
- New LAs are hired in between April and November.
- Returning LAs are assigned to a class before newly hired LAs.
Summer LA Requests
- Generally, LAs are not hired for summer. Experienced LAs may be invited to work during summer semester. Priority is given to faculty who have previously worked with an LA.
What is expected from faculty with an LA?
Work as a team with their Learning Assistant to maximize student success in current and future math courses. This includes, but is not limited to - allowing their LAs time IN class to give class study skills (and resources) presentations, interact with students, help with projects and activities, etc. Additionally, LAs should be utilized outside of class for planning, meeting with students individually or in groups, posting reminders and notes, etc.
Meet a minimum of 30 minutes per week with their assigned Learning Assistant to discuss the needs and concerns of the class and individual students.
Review LA Time Log and email to Lindsey Page (lindsey.page@slcc.edu) every pay period (15th and end of month).
Communicate with Learning Assistant Leads if the Learning Assistant is not adhering to their agreement.
