EV Charging Station Guidelines
EV CHARGING STATION GUIDELINES
EV charging stations are available for use by students, faculty, and staff who hold a valid parking permit.
Effective January 2026
Salt Lake Community College is committed to providing fair, accessible, and well-maintained EV charging for our campus community. After listening to feedback from students, staff, and faculty, we have updated our pricing structure to better balance affordability, charger availability, and system sustainability.
Charging Rate
Energy Rate: $0.25 per kWh
This is the cost charged to the user for all electricity consumed from SLCC's system while recharging a vehicle's battery.
Station Time Rate:
- First 90 minutes: No station time charge
- After 90 minutes: $0.25 per minute, regardless of whether charging is still in progress or has completed
- A 30-minute grace period is provided to allow drivers time to return and move their vehicle.
After the initial 90-minute period (and grace period), both the energy rate ($0.25/kWh) and the station time rate ($0.25/min) apply until the vehicle is unplugged.
Session Cost Cap:
- $50 maximum charge per charging session
This ensures drivers will not be charged more than $50 total for any single charging session. The overstay fee helps ensure chargers remain available for others and supports continued operation and maintenance of the charging network.
What This Means for Drivers
This simplified structure allows you to attend class or meetings without needing to monitor your vehicle during the first 90 minutes. The grace period provides flexibility, and the session cap offers cost certainty.
Why This Update Helps
By consolidating station time charges, adding a grace period, and capping total session costs, this structure improves clarity, fairness, and access while supporting charger availability and ongoing maintenance. Thank you for your patience and for helping us make EV charging easier and more reliable for the SLCC community.
Taxes
All fees listed above are subject to applicable Utah state and local taxes.
Why These Fees Exist
Charging fees help cover:
- Electricity costs
- Network connection and service fees
- Charger maintenance and repairs
- Ensuring chargers remain available and functional for the entire campus community
Our goal is to keep EV charging reliable, accessible, and financially sustainable while responding to the needs of campus users.
Additional Notes
- Vehicles must be moved promptly after charging is complete to maximize charger availability for other users.
- Parking in EV charging spaces is only permitted while actively charging.
- Violations of this policy may result in parking citations or other enforcement actions per campus regulations.
If you experience any issues with the chargers, please submit a service request through email Fix.It@slcc.edu or call 801-957-3911.
