EV Charging Station Guidelines

EV charging stations are available for use by students, faculty, and staff who hold a valid parking permit.

Effective January 1, 2026

Salt Lake Community College is committed to providing fair, accessible, and well-maintained EV charging for our campus community. After listening to feedback from students, staff, and faculty, we have updated our pricing structure to better balance affordability, charger availability, and system sustainability.

Charging Rate

Energy Rate: $0.25 per kWh

This is the cost charged to the user for all electricity consumed from SLCC’s system while recharging a vehicle’s battery.

Session (Station Time) Fee

  • First 1.5 hours (90 minutes): Free station time
  • After 90 minutes: $0.05 per minute while actively charging
  • Please note: The session (station time) fee is in addition to the $0.25 per kWh energy rate.

Overstay Fee:

Once a vehicle has finished charging:

  • Drivers will receive a notification through the ChargePoint mobile app
  • A 15-minute grace period is provided to move the vehicle
  • After the grace period, an overstay fee of $0.25 per minute will apply
  • The overstay fee helps ensure chargers remain available for others and supports continued operation and maintenance of the charging network.

Important Reminder

  • An overstay fee can begin before the initial 90 minutes if your vehicle becomes fully charged early.
  • To avoid unnecessary charges, please ensure your ChargePoint notifications are turned on so you are alerted when charging is complete.

Taxes

All fees listed above are subject to applicable Utah state and local taxes.

Why These Fees Exist

Charging fees help cover:

  • Electricity costs
  • Network connection and service fees
  • Charger maintenance and repairs
  • Ensuring chargers remain available and functional for the entire campus community

Our goal is to keep EV charging reliable, accessible, and financially sustainable while responding to the needs of campus users.

Additional Notes

  • Vehicles must be moved promptly after charging is complete to maximize charger availability for other users.
  • Parking in EV charging spaces is only permitted while actively charging.
  • Violations of this policy may result in parking citations or other enforcement actions per campus regulations.

If you experience any issues with the chargers, please submit a service request through email Fix.It@slcc.edu or call 801-957-3911.
