Monica Chandler
Assistant Professor
Monica began her architectural journey here at Salt Lake Community College before transferring to the University of Utah, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture. With a passion for design and problem-solving, she spent 14 years in the architectural field, including five years at Architectural Nexus and nine years at FFKR Architects. Her work spanned a diverse range of project types, from large-scale collaborations with extensive teams to smaller, individual projects where she took the lead. Influential mentors played a pivotal role in shaping her career and supporting her through various life transitions.
After 14 years of professional practice, Monica transitioned to education, teaching evening classes as an adjunct instructor at SLCC for five years. In Fall 2024, she accepted a full-time, tenure-track position as an assistant professor, a role she embraced with enthusiasm.
Monica's teaching philosophy centers on the belief that every student possesses unique gifts and perspectives, and that education should nurture the growth of the individual. She strives to teach the technical skills, concepts, and vocabulary of architecture while fostering an environment where students can flourish and discover their potential.
Understanding that architectural education can be demanding and abstract, Monica encourages students to trust the process and remain resilient. She believes architecture is a transformative profession that empowers individuals to make positive changes in the world, and she is honored to guide and witness the growth of the next generation of architects.

Shelley Bodily
Associate Dean, Visual Art & Design
Shelley is a licensed architect in Utah with certifications from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and as a LEED Accredited Professional in Interior Design and Construction (LEED AP ID+C). Her academic journey began at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), where she earned an Associate’s degree in Architecture before continuing to the University of Utah for her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture. Currently, she serves as the Associate Dean of Visual Art & Design at SLCC and was recently appointed as an Associate Professor after earning tenure.
Shelley originally considered a career in engineering but found herself drawn to architecture after exploring different academic paths. The field’s combination of technical problem-solving and creative expression resonated with her, leading her to pursue it professionally. Over the years, she has gained valuable insight into building and design, particularly through the mentorship of Professor Kass, whose guidance helped shape her architectural perspective.
A strong advocate for design education, Shelley is passionate about fostering the next generation of architects. She has a deep appreciation for mid-century modern design, particularly the Case Study Homes, and admires the work of John Lautner. One of her favorite architectural works is the Sheats-Goldstein Mansion in Los Angeles, which reflects her interest in innovative and expressive design.
Through her leadership at SLCC and commitment to architectural education, Shelley continues to contribute to the field, inspiring students and professionals alike.
