Writing Intensive (WI)

Honors students are encouraged to take Writing Intensive (WI) designated courses at SLCC as an option for fulfilling the high-impact requirements. Writing Intensive is a high-impact practice because it enhances student course learning outcomes and student engagement by encouraging students to produce and revise various forms of writing for different audiences in different disciplines. Courses with the WI designation includes various fields of study i.e. business, criminal justice, communications, history, economics, and more.

In the SLCC General Catalog, you can search for High-Impact Practices (HIPs) through the attribute feature on the searchable schedule. Writing Intensive course sections will have (WI) after the title i.e. US History to 1877 (SS) (WI) – this means that this specific course section will fulfill the Social Science general education requirement and also fulfill the HIP Writing Intensive requirement for honors. Not all course sections will have the WI-designation because they are all taught by different faculty, so make sure that the specific course section that you are taking has this specific designation.
