Repaying Your Loans
You repay federal student loans after you're no longer attending SLCC or if you're no longer enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. Federal loans have a grace period after graduation before you have to start repaying the loan.
When do I have to start repaying my student loans?
- Perkins Loan: 9-month grace period before repayment begins
- Stafford Loan: 6-month grace period before repayment begins
- Parental Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS): Payment begins 60 days after disbursement
- Semester Tuition Installment Loan: $30 fee per semester. Make your first payment when you apply and other payments monthly during the semester. If you're more than 30 days late with a payment, you'll be charged interest of 1.5 percent per month (18 percent per year).
- Emergency Book Loan: The full loan amount, plus a $10 service charge, is due by the end of the semester.
